Boverket’s Building Regulations (BBR)

In Sweden, regulations applicable to fire insulation are stipulated in BBR, issued by the National Board of Housing, building and planning. There it is stated that any installation that penetrates a fire-rated construction of a building must not compromise its resistance to fire.
Therefore, buildings are divided into fire cells, each designed to resist fire during a specified time period, for example EI30, EI60, EI90 and EI120.
”E” refers to integrity (density) and ”I” means insulation, regardless type of insulation. Figures refer to minutes. Any plumbing, electrical or ventilation installations that penetrates the fire cell shall be sealed in the right way, not to constitute a weak point.
